Exploring the Measurements Following Hip Arthroscopy and Dynamometry Testing of the Hip

Abstract

Abstract : Background: Medium-term longitudinal studies considering postoperative hip arthroscopy (HA) changes are lacking. Objectively measuring hip muscle strength changes using a hand-held dynamometer (HHD) is essential following HA. However, HHD can be affected by the method and location of stabilisation. Purpose: (1) To investigate the clinical changes in MS', ROM1, MHHSt, and VASS following HA and the factors that affect these changes. (2) To evaluate the validity and reliability of two hip strength assessment platforms (GrAASP and STAPH"). (3) To determine the best location and method of stabilisation of a HHD: Methods: A secondary dataset of 316 HA patients (age: 41.4±14.4 years) was analysed. Two samples of healthy active participants (age: 22.9±4.4 and 19.7±1.7 years) were assessed to evaluate the limits of agreement (LoA) between GrAASP and an isokinetic device (IKD), and test-retest agreement in scores using GrAASP and STAPH. Results: The biggest improvements in hip MS, MHHS and VAS were between preoperative and 24 weeks postoperatively (all p
