| Abstract | Abstract : This is an applied study to initiate a Regional Power Market to utilize Member States energy resources for electricity sectors with an acceptable level of reliability. The present study has focused on creating Regional Electricity Market (REM) in the GCC region and continue Al-Muhawesh (2007) research in Saudi Arabia Electricity Market. Three steps used to recommend a new REM Model. The first step is to study and assess the status of member states in terms of development towards the energy trading market. The second step is shaping and defining the business model proposed by studying global experiences in the RES. The third step is to identify gaps between the member state status and the recommended REM. Followed by a list of recommendations and propose REM. In this regards, the member states readiness and their feedback are studied and views the expected REM. These steps used to present the level of development in GCC electricity sectors and the gap analysis toward REM. In practice, it is necessary to know the load demand and generation availability so that the demand can be satisfied economically. For this reason, prediction of the long term load demand becomes quite important. In this thesis, the Long Term Load Forecasted (LTLF) for the GCC countries is carried out by utilizing multi-regression analysis, curve fitting and Artificial Neuro-Fuzzy Intelligent systems (ANFIS). Opportunity model for Power Trading between MSs has been modeled to forecast the trading opportunity in term of time and quantities. Energy prices calculated for the production cost in the GCC using different methods. The Marginal cost calculation for GCC generation units modeled using AURORA and PROMO software. The obtained results illustrated, compared and discussed using uniformed and international fuel prices. The results presented in term of range of prices. Power Trading opportunities, benefits calculated based on the results found earlier. In addition, the expected benefits from the forecasted opportunities and energy prices are calculated, and the economic benefits of Value of Lost Load (VoLL) and energy exchanged are calculated. System reliability necessitates studying the effect of machine switching and corresponding loss of load expectation (LOLE) in the interconnected systems. Machine switching reliability is modeled by means of Laplace Transforms and ANFIS software. LOLE is calculated by utilizing AURORA software and Monte Carlo simulations. The results obtained from these analysis has shown that the delays satisfy the GCC requirements of being loss than 5 hours per year. In conclusion, this study presents the recommended Multi Zone Border to Border Regional Market Model to be implemented in the GCC region. The LTLF, unit cost, marginal cost, opportunity model, system reliability and economic benefits have been developed to satisfy the proposed market model. | |
