| Abstract | Abstract : The purpose of this study is to explore the prsent status of educational supervision in the girls elementary schools at the Eastern Region of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. In order to achieve this purpose, the author developed a 27- item questionnaire measuring opinions of female teachers and supervisors concerning the goals, functions, and methods of educational supervision, and also the roles and tasks of supervisors. The questionnaire was administered to 80 female supervisors and 240 teachers working at the elementary schools of the Eastern Region in Saudi Arabia. The results of this study indicated that educational supervision lacks a comprehensive and integrated plan aimed at ensuring the professional growth of teachers. Furthermore, a clear discrepancy was revealed in teachers' and supervisors' opinion about the aforementioned aspects of educational supervision. Teachers and supervisors are lacking concrete and effective ways to promote group efforts intended to implement supervision plans in the practical field. The author recommended inaugurating new methods of educational supervision, assigning a resident supervisor at the school, and organizing joint meetings between teachers and supervisors aimed at reaching a consensus regarding the goals and functions of supervision. | |
