| Abstract | ABSTRACT: The aim of this study is to: a) find out what values and needs are most appropriate to differentiate between high- and low-creative female students in secondary schools in Bahrain who follow either the credit hour system or the one-year academic system. b) determine to what extent personal values and needs are correlated with the ability to think creatively. c) finally, to what extent we can rely on personal values and needs to predict one's ability to think creatively. Based on the available relevant literature and previous studies, the present study attempted to find significant answers to the following questions: 1) What are the most important needs that can discriminate between high-, average-, and low-creative female students in secondary school? 2) What are the most important values that can discriminate between high-, average-, and low-creative female students in secondary school? 3) What needs are significantly correlated with the ability to think creatively? 4) What values are significantly correlated with the ability to think creatively? 5) What personal needs can we rely upon to predict one's ability to think creatively? 6) What personal values can we rely upon to predict one's ability to think creatively? Research sample A sample of students consists of: a) Pilot sample: 32 female students at the secondary school (Art and Science) following the one-year academic study system. Secondary female students in Bahrain follow the traditional system. b) Main sample: 209 female students at secondary school (Art and Science), 99 of whom followed the credit-hour system and 110 of whom followed the traditional one-year academic system Research tools a) Personal preference scale for needs (prepared by Edward Murray, translated by Japer A. Hameed). b) Scale of values (prepared by Albort Vernon & Lindsay, translated by Ataya Hanna). c) Test of creative thinking ability (prepared by A. Algafar). A. Alsalam Research statistical methods: a) Is the discriminate analysis used to test the first and second questions? b) Is the correlation coefficient used to test the third and fourth questions? c) Weight estimation used to test the fifth and sixth questions? Research result: 1) Needs that have the power to discriminate between highly and lowly creative female students in secondary school are, in descending order: need for exhibit, nurture, heterosexuality, dominance, endurance, deference, order, interception, affiliation, aggression, autonomy, achievement, change, success, and abasement 2) Values that have the power to discriminate between high- and low-creative female students in secondary school are the following in descending order: religiosity, economics, social, political, and theoretical aesthetics. 3) Results of the study also proved that: a) The greater the increase in creative ability, the greater the rating preference for the following needs: exhibit, deference, dominance, interaception, autonomy, affiliation, and abasement. And at the same time, the less the preference for the following needs: endurance, heterosexuality, nuturance, change, order, achievement, aggression, and succorance. b) The greater the increase in creative ability, the greater the rating preference for the following value: religous. And at the same time, the less the rating preference for the following values: social, economic, aesthetically, theoretical, and political values | |
