| Abstract | Abstract: The improvement of Arabic Language teaching is an urgent necessity meant to advance the students' performance. The Complementary Approach (CA) to teaching language is a major factor in developing it. Language is a complete entity and there should be no isolation among its components. In light of the urgent need to improve Arabic language teaching, The Ministry of Education in The Kingdom of Bahrain has taken a number of swift and ambitious steps towards the development of the curricula and methods of education towards CA. In response to this trend of development with regard to the educational structure in the secondary stage and emphasis on the complementary nature of Arabic Language, The Arabic Language Section in The Department of Curricula has revised the curriculum for that stage. It has prepared a new curriculum that takes into consideration CA and the interconnection among the components of Arabic language, using texts as the basis for teaching all components integrally. ALS has also authored some school textbooks in tune with CA, depending on language texts as a basis for teaching all elements of Arabic. Since the implementation of this method in teaching Arabic, complaints have been made in different forms. Teachers have complained of the difficulty of implementing CA in teaching Arabic. Studies show that the performance of Arabic teachers has gone down while using this approach. The researcher conducted a survey with the aim of finding whether the curriculum of Arabic is suitable for implementing CA. She distributed a questionnaire to 20 male and female teachers( see appendix 1). 80% of them pointed out that the curriculum of Arabic for that stage was not suitable for the implementation of CA; 40.5% of them explained that there were obstacles that hindered the implementation of CA while teaching Arabic language. The researcher aims to explore the views of the teachers of Arabic for the secondary stage with regard to the difficulties the face teaching the curriculum. The research, therefore, will attempt to answer the following two questions: Π What are the difficulties that face male and female teachers when teaching Arabic in the secondary stage by implementing the Complementary Approach? What are the causes of these difficulties? Are there any statistically significant variables with regard to the difficulties that face male and female teachers when teaching Arabic by implementing the Complementary Approach? | |
