| Abstract | Abstract : The purpose of this study was to investigate the perceptions of managers in Bahrain (both financial and non-financial) regarding the effect of Foreign Financial Institutions (FFI) on Bahrain's economy The problem motivating this study was the effects that FFI had on the social. cultural, political, legal, economic, business, and technological environments of their host countries, especially in developing nations. This study is based on a survey of the perceptions of 61 managers regarding the roles of FFI in the Bahrain economy. A review of the literature on FFIs and their relationships with their host countries was provide. This review focuses on five major environmental dimensions (Social-Cultural, Political-Legal, Business-Economic, Company Specific and Technological structured dimensions) that are affected by FFIs. A structured questionnaire was developed covering all major items in each of these dimensions. The study categorizes subjects by managers (financial and non-financial) Since most of the variables in the study were measured using nominal and ordinal scales, mostly non-parametric statistics were used for data analysis. Section I of the questionnaire includes demographic items which are measured primarily with nominal or ordinal scales Section II of the questionnaire consists of questions on the perceptions of subjects on FFI's effects on Bahrain. A five-items Likert-type scale is used This Likert-type scale provides ordinal measures of the subjects' perceptions. At the end of the questionnaire there is an open-ended question designed to collect qualitative data that were analyzed accordingly. The t-test was used to test for significance in the differences between the two groups of a particular variable. The major finding from this study was that the two groups of managers perception in Bahrain perceive positive impact on the presence of FFIs on Bahrain's economy, with the exception of the cultural environment. The favorable perceptions were about the FFIs effects on the change in business-economic, and technological environments in Bahrain. The results of the study should be beneficial to the Bahrain government, FFIs doing business in Bahrain, and also to cross-cultural researchers interested in the Middle East. | |
