| Abstract | Abstract : This thesis aims to evaluate the content of the science book for third intermediate classes in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia according to international standards. This thesis aims to achieve its objectives by answering the following questions: 1. What are the standards used to evaluate the science book for third intermediate classes in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia? 2. To what extent are these standards included in the contents of the science book for third intermediate classes in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia? 3. What proposals are necessary to improve the science book for third intermediate classes in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in light of these standards? The study sample was the science book for third intermediate classes of the Ministry of Education in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, with its first and second parts for the 2007/2008 academic year, which is taught in all government and private schools in the Kingdom To achieve our objective, we used the descriptive method based on the content analysis method, depending on the subject as an analyzing unit. We ensured that the analyzing operation was based on scientific methods. The studying tool was a list of fixed standards for the science textbook of the third intermediate class subject to National Science Education Standards (NSES), which included seven main standards as follows: Science as investigation method, natural science, living science, space and earth science, science and technology, science in personal and social views, earth history, and science nature. Each standard includes secondary branches (referred to in the list as secondary standards) amounting to 29 secondary standards that include approximately 146 indicators distributed among the seven standards as mentioned in the List of Standards - Appendix (1). The studying sample, the science textbook of third intermediate classes in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, was analyzed, and the following are the percentages of the studying results: 1. The researcher found that the rate of secondary standards fully achieved and addressed in the contents of the book sample reached 20.55%, and the rate of partially achieved standards was 23.29%. 2. The researcher found that the rate of non-achieved standards in the content was the highest, reaching 56.16%. Based on these results, the study provided some recommendations, including: 1. Science standards planners should ensure that the science book for third-intermediate classes in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia includes the main standards and develops it in light of these standards. 2. Including content that should achieve science standards in the science book for third-intermediate classes in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in general, and science standards in personal, social, earth & space sciences, and living sciences in private. 3. To implement standards for teaching science, especially in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, based on our Islamic and Arabic culture, benefiting from the experience of others around the world in this field 4. Holding training courses for science teachers and supervisors to acquaint them with the standards, their objectives, and what is new in the science field and teaching strategies. 5. Schools should fulfill their social role by acquainting students' guardians with the standards and their objectives. 6. Using all methods that support the achievement of the standards objectives, such as scientific activities, equipped school laboratories, and the modern technology necessary for teaching science. 7. Giving more care and attention to the teacher's guidance and including it in the teacher's participation in the achievement of international standards and its fixed objectives | |
