Abstract
Abstract : The project discusses the process of migrating a traditional database to the Web and the issues involved in this process. The project presented different viewpoints about this process and adopted the viewpoint, which stated that there were no difficulties in the process of transferring a traditional system to the Web. The project goes on to prove that viewpoint by conducting the necessary background research and building a prototype to illustrate the findings. In addition, the project also shows that there are operational differences between a traditional and a web-based database. These operational differences enable web-based database to provide certain benefits to businesses. Such benefits include: ease of database access and manipulation, better control over the content and security of the database, instant database access from anywhere on the globe, lower costs, the ability to modify existing options and add new ones, and the ability to work with different platforms. The prototype illustrates all these benefits in more details. The project introduces two main hypotheses. First, there are no difficulties in migrating a traditional database to the Web. This hypothesis has been proven correct by the project. In fact, migrating a database to the Web has a number of benefits such as the ones mentioned above. Second, there are no operational differences between a traditional and a web-based database, which the project shows to be incorrect.
