Abstract : This dissertation deals with the terminology and elements of quality assurance and discusses the relevance of quality assurance to construction. Then follows information on the standards for quality systems and the schemes that are operational or being developed. Guidance is given on developing and implementing a quality system, and various aspects of the application of quality assurance to construction are discussed. The report concludes that quality assurance in construction is essential and worth the costs. assurance. This dissertation is not a comprehensive treatise on quality. Those experienced in the theory and practice may find the detail and terminology oversimplified. Nevertheless, it is believed that the dissertation will enlighten those with less knowledge of quality assurance and encourage informed debate on its application to construction
