Improvement of design, operation and maintenance of Foul Sewerage system in Bahrain

Abstract

Abstract : A study for a foul sewerage system is being considered for Bahrain Island. There is a need for a system to cope with the development of the island and also to minimise the risk to public health and of environmental pollution. An improvement study is needed for the existing foul sewerage system, which is to be incorporated with newly designed systems in the future. The study will concentrate upon the existing system and on how it may be possible to up-grade the existing system so as to be able to combine it with the new design, which could lead to a much improved system overall. The intention is to minimise both operation and maintenance costs. In regard to these considerations the author felt it would be essential to make a study of improvements for the design, operation and maintenance of foul sewerage systems. The conclusions reached in the project may help to control the problems which already exist in the foul sewerage system in Bahrain so as to prevent any further risk to the environment.
