| Abstract | Abstract: This thesis investigates the integration of Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G) technology into the IEEE 33-bus distribution network to address critical challenges in modern power systems, including voltage stability, peak load management, and power loss reduction. By leveraging the Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) algorithm and a 24-hour load forecast, the study develops a scalable optimization framework for the strategic placement and sizing of Electric Vehicle (EV) batteries. The findings demonstrate significant improvements in grid performance, including a 10.57% reduction in power losses, enhanced voltage stability within the limits of 0.9 to 1 p.u., and effective peak shaving, which is seen at Node 26's where the loading improved from approximately -0.11 p.u. to around -0.07 p.u with cuts of up to 36.4%. These results validate the potential of V2G-enabled EVs as dynamic distributed energy resources, capable of providing reactive power support and improving grid resilience. The study contributes to the theoretical understanding of dynamic grid support frameworks and offers practical insights for utilities and policymakers. By addressing the challenges of integrating renewable energy and EVs into distribution systems, this research underscores the transformative potential of V2G technology in achieving sustainable and reliable energy systems. Future research is encouraged to extend this framework to larger networks and explore real-world implementation scenarios. | |
