| Abstract | Abstract : The objective of this research was to identify the effectiveness of the suggested program on the professional development of science teachers in intermediate schools in Bahrain and measure its effect on the thinking skills of their students. To achieve this, the researcher identified training needs, based on which he constructed a list containing professional development requirements for science teachers in intermediate schools. He then constructed a suggested program based on these requirements, which were based on self-learning (modules). Moreover, the researcher prepared the research tools (an achievement test to assess knowledge, an observation checklist to evaluate the skills of the research group (the experimental group and the control group), and a measurement of thinking skills (problem solving) to evaluate the development of thinking skills in students in the research group). The researcher used the achievement test and observation checklist as a pre-application for the research group. Similarly, there was a pre-application for measuring thinking skills in students in the research group (the experimental group and the control group). After that, the suggested program was applied to the experimental group, whereas this was not done in the control group. This group was trained only through programs of the Ministry of Education. After implementing the suggested program, there was a post-application of the research tools to the experimental group and control group, as well as to their students. Finally, the results were statistically analyzed, which revealed the effectiveness of the suggested program in developing the knowledge and skills of the experimental group. This suggested program also had a clear effect on developing thinking skills and problem solving in students in the research group.
