Abstract
Abstract : The present study aimed to examine marital adjustment and its relationship with forgiveness, gratitude, and psychological well-being. The study was conducted on a sample of recently married individuals comprising 30 males and 30 females, totaling 60 participants, drawn from all governorates of the Kingdom of Bahrain. The researcher employed the Marital Adjustment Scale developed by Zuwari (2017) to assess the level of marital adjustment among the study sample. In addition, the Forgiveness Scale prepared by Tawfiq Abdul Munim and colleagues was used, along with the Gratitude Scale developed by the same author, and the Psychological Well-Being Scale. The study sought to identify the nature of the relationship between marital adjustment and forgiveness, gratitude, and psychological well-being, as well as to determine whether statistically significant gender differences existed in forgiveness, gratitude, and psychological well-being The findings revealed a statistically significant positive correlation between marital adjustment and forgiveness at the 0.01 level of significance. Similarly, a statistically significant positive correlation was found between marital adjustment and gratitude at the 0.01 level. The results also indicated a statistically significant positive correlation between marital adjustment and psychological well-being at the same level of significance. These findings supported the validity of the first three hypotheses of the study. With regard to gender differences, the results showed no statistically significant differences between males and females in forgiveness, gratitude, or psychological well-being. This outcome confirmed the validity of the three hypotheses, positing the absence of statistically significant gender differences in these variables. The study concluded with a set of recommendations and suggestions aimed at contributing to the establishment of stable families characterized by love, forgiveness, and gratitude, thereby enhancing psychological well-being and marital adjustment. The researcher also proposed several research topics to support, enrich, and expand future studies in this field.
