| Abstract | Abstract : The present study investigated the personnel management in hospital recruitment and selection of physicians, and to compare the most suitable recruitment and selection strategies between the four Bahraini hospitals. A total of 30 physicians (n=21) and Senior staff (n=9) who are responsible for recruitment and selection in the personnel management departments from four hospitals in Bahrain were chosen. An interview questionnaire was administered to the sample includes 18 items were taken from Bonds and Pulliam (1991), with adaptation by the author. The 18-items necessitated a response to be selected from a five-Likert scale. The five responses were: SA = Strongly Agree, A = Agree, U = Undecided, D = Disagree, SD= Strongly Disagree. Cronbach alpha (2) for the 18-items was 0.7621 for the total sample. The results shows that there was: (1) a significant differences between BDF and AMH in the selecting and coordinating with recruitment agencies, accounted for AMH; (2) no significant differences between BDF and BIH in selection and recruitment processes; (3) a significant differences between BDF and SMC accounted for BDF in: (a) in setting realistic timetables for choosing physicians recruitment negotiations; (b) coordinating physicians interview schedules and information gathering; (c) maintaining an open line of communication with all current medical staff; (d) explaining about the incentive package to board and requests permission; (e) developing a recruitment plan for physicians in hospital. (4) no significant differences between the four hospitals in organization, coordination and planning strategies of recruitment and selection processes. Thus, that there were more similarities among the four hospitals than differences regarding the recruitment and selection processes of physicians. Based on the results of the study it was recommended that future research should be conducted at the same task for other hospital staff, e.g., nurses, health workers, technicians... etc. Abbreviations: BDF (Bahrain Defence Force Hospital), AMH (American Mission Hospital), BIH (Bahrain International Hospital) and SMC (Salmaniya Medical Centre). | |
