| Abstract | Abstract : A Study on the Differences Between the Gifted and Ordinary Students in Social Adaptation Skills among a Sample of Secondary School Students in Bahrain This study aimed at identifying the differences between the gifted and ordinary high school students in the social adaptation skills and investigating the relationship between social adaptation and academic achievement. The study population consisted of (31294) secondary school students in the Kingdom of Bahrain (15335 males and 15959 females). A random sample of (300) students including (149) gifted students and (151) ordinary students was chosen. The study followed the descriptive approach and the researcher developed the Social Adaptaion Skills Scale that included three subscales: Social Communication with Others, Cooperation and Empathy. The results showed that there were statistically significant differences between the mean scores of the gifted students and those of the ordinary ones on the total scale of Social Adaptation Skills and its subscales in favor of gifted students for the total sample and each of the male and female sample, except for the Communication with Others scale, that showed no significant differences for the female sample. The results also showed that there were statistically significant differences (0.05) between the mean scores of the study sample on the total Scale of Social Adaptation Skills and on the subscales of Cooperation and Empathy in favor of females. However, there were no statistically significant differences that could be attributed to the variables of age, the interaction between age and talent, and between gender and talent. Based on these results the study recommended the implementation of counseling and training programs that deal with the development of social adaptation skills among both gifted and ordinary students as it is related to success in life. | |
