| Abstract | Abstract: The Effect of Learning Cycle on the Achievement of Primary School Student in Science M. Ed. Thesis Submitted as Partial Fulfillment by KALTHEM MOHAMMED AL-BIN-ALI The main focus of this study is to examine the effects of both learning cycle and traditional approaches in the achievement of primary students in learning science. Learning cycle is an approache to science teaching in these approaches to learning teachers act as facilitators, guides, and informers. On the contrary, in the traditional approach, the teachers present the content of what is to be learned in a final form. The sample of the study consisted of 52 third year primaries (grade), drawn from EAST RIFFA PRIMARY poy's school in the Kingdom of Bahrain in the first semester 2003/2004. They were divided in two groups: experimental and control. The experimental group was taught according to of the learning cycle approach, whereas the control group was taught according to the traditional approach. The data collected was accomplished by using an achievement test developed by the researcher. Two-way analysis of variance as well as Newman-Keuls Test statistics was also used to for data analysis. It was found that the experimental group outperformed significantly the control group in the post-test. It was also found that the learning cycle approach was more effective with high, mid and law achievement student than the traditional approach. Based on the results of this study it was recommended to that teachers should be encouraged teachers to adopt the learning cycle method in their teaching science for its effectiveness in improving students' achievement. | |
