| Abstract | Abstract : The current study aimed to identify the relationship between patterns of family communication and psychological security among a sample of teenage girls in the Kingdom of Bahrain. It further seeks to reveal the most common patterns of communication among the sample members as well as to uncover the significance of the differences between both patterns of family communication and psychological security according to the two variables: the educational and economic level of the parents and the arrangement between siblings. The descriptive and comparative approach was used in this study which consisted of 200 girls between the ages of 13 and 15 years, to whom it was applied electronically. The current study used the Family Communication Patterns Scale developed by Ritchie and Fizpatrick [1990] that was itself adopted in the study of [Al-Fraihat and Maqafa, 2017] which consists of [26] statements distributed along two dimensions: The pattern of movement towards dialogue, the pattern of obedience and commitment, as well as the measure of psychological security prepared by the researcher, which consists of two key dimensions: self-perception and interaction with others. The study concluded that there is a relationship between the style of movement toward dialogue, the dimension of self-perception and that of the relationship with others. This comes as the significance of the correlation between the style of obedience and the measure of psychological security isn't clear with its dimensions of self-perception, the relationship with others and the total score of the measure. Moreover, there is no statistically significant correlation between the adolescent's rank in the family and the communication patterns and the psychological security. There are also no statistically significant differences between the education levels of the father and mother in patterns of family communication and psychological security. In addition, no statistically significant differences appeared based on the economic level of the family in the two measures: family communication and psychological security. | |
