| Abstract | Abstract : As a developing country, the Kingdom of Bahrain has ratified the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and fully adopted and integrated its goals into its 2030 national economic plan, which includes developing sustainable human settlements and cities. Despite national initiatives and endeavors to achieve this goal, the conversion to sustainable buildings in Bahrain is slower than projected, as sustainable housing transformation strategies have not yet been adopted due to the absence of a progress measurement plan. This situation underscored the urgency to explore the extent of Bahraini housing stakeholders' awareness of sustainable residential development in order to understand its advantages and the obstacles to its adoption. The case study design, which comprised in-depth, semi-structured individual interviews with fifteen key figures from Bahrain's public and private housing sectors, representing various levels of organizational hierarchy, served as the basis for this qualitative thesis. The thematic analysis of the raw data yielded several codes that revealed extensive knowledge of sustainable housing practices across the four facets of sustainability: economic, environmental, social, and cultural. Proper planning, design, and construction techniques, power and water efficiency solutions, privacy, security, and safety features, and dwelling affordability were the most applied principles in the Bahrain housing market. The leading real estate players concurred that mitigating maintenance and operational expenditures, raising the market value of properties, and enhancing residents' quality of life represented the principal benefits of sustainable attributes. However, according to stakeholders' perspectives, insufficient policies, regulations, and standards, the need for additional government incentives, and high investment capital for sustainable methods formed significant barriers to the implementation of sustainable housing. The novelty and uniqueness of this study contribute to the body of knowledge, and its crucial implications will be advantageous for investors, decision-makers, and academics who are responsive to change.
