| Abstract | Abstract : This empirical study is an attempt to asses the implementation of the Quality Assurance System in the Bahrain National Gas Company ( Banagas ) and also to evaluate the cultural requirements that are needed for implementing the Quality Assurance System in the company. Data was collected through administering a structured questionnaire to 70 employees at different organisational levels. The Internationalisation of the ISO 9000 and its world wide spread made companies all over the world heighten their interest in these standards. These interests are also market driven through increased global competition or customer expressed demands or requirements. For the Arabian Gulf companies it is most significant to be able to compete in global markets catching the Quality Train. The study also presents detailed literature on the ISO 9000 standards and the Total Quality Management. The empirical findings and conclusions are discussed and presented. The main conclusion is that the implemented Quality Assurance System has been initiated with full support from the Top management and employee involvement at every step taken to achieve ISO 9000 registration with the British Standard Institute. In order for the Bahrain National Gas Company to ensure the widening of its Quality scope into Total Quality Management, it is necessary for the company to address its cultural issues by training, recognising and rewarding staff, and by implementing a continuous improvement programme. | |
