AbstractAbstract : This dissertation presents a small disturbance stability analysis of unsaturated and saturated models of a salient pole synchronous machine. A procedure for linearization of saturated models is proposed. The linearized unsaturated and saturated models are used to present a single-machine-infinite bus system. The turbine governor and excitation voltage controller are not modeled so they can be treated as independent inputs. Simulations of non-linear and linearized unsaturated and saturated models are performed using MATLAB. Results of the simulation obtained from the saturated models are compared with each other and with the unsaturated models. In addition, Monte Carlo simulation is performed using MATLAB, in which the real power, saturation factor and saliency factor are randomly chosen and uniformly distributed between certain limits.
