Abstract

Abstract: This study aimed to identify the nature of the relationship between excessive use of social media and marital compatibility among a sample of married couples, and to identify the significance of differences in the level of excessive use of social media and marital compatibility among some married couples attributed to variables: some demographic variables (age and gender). The study used the descriptive comparative correlational approach, and the study tools consisted of two tools: the Social Media Overuse Scale prepared by: Jamal Al-Manayes 2020, and the Marital Compatibility Scale prepared by: Farhan Al-Anzi 2009. The study sample consisted of (100) individuals from the Bahraini public who were randomly selected from the four governorates of the Kingdom of Bahrain. The data were analyzed using the SPSS program using Pearson's correlation coefficient, multiple regression analysis, the "t" test for independent samples, and the one-way analysis of variance test The results of the study revealed a statistically significant negative correlation (at the 0.01 level) between excessive use of social media and marital adjustment among a sample of married individuals in the Kingdom of Bahrain, with a correlation coefficient of -0.035**. The study also showed statistically significant differences in the levels of excessive social media use and marital adjustment based on gender. Additionally, there were statistically significant differences based on age in favor of the 25-30 age group. However, there were no statistically significant differences in the level of excessive social media use attributable to age variables. Based on these findings, a set of recommendations was proposed. Keywords: excessive use of social media, marital compatibility
