خِطَابُ السَّرِدِ الْعَجَائِبِيِّ عِنْدَ عَبْدِ القَادِرِ عقيل (دِرَاسَةٌ سِيميائيّةٌ سَرْدِيَّة)

Abstract

Abstract : This study explores the concept of marvellous narrative discourse through the literary works of the Bahraini short story writer Abdul Qader Aqeel, from both theoretical and applied perspectives. The theoretical dimension investigates the meaning and implications of marvellous in modern literary criticism, while also referring to its presence and significance in the history of classical Arabic literature. The study further outlines the features of the marvellous's roots in Gulf literature and its development into its current form. The applied section analyzes marvellous narrative discourse in the works of Abdul Qader Aqeel by employing the semiotic method, particularly Greimas's Semiotic Square, aiming to identify the components, domains, and mechanisms of marvellous narration The study is structured as follows: an introduction, a preface, three main chapters, a conclusion, and appendices. In the preface, the study defines the concept of the marvellous, the critical dimensions of the term in contemporary literary theory, its conditions, and the linguistic and technical definitions of the novel. It also highlights the core elements contributing to the construction of the marvellous and its discourse. Chapter One is dedicated to examining the Gulf marvellous, discussing its main features and the concepts surrounding it, such as folk tales, popular imagination, the miracles of saints, and myth. The second part of this chapter introduces the author Abdul Qader Aqeel and provides a brief overview of the texts under investigation. Chapter Two investigates the semiotics of the marvellous in Aqeel's works through a semiotic reading of selected texts, employing Greimas's Semiotic Square to uncover key semiotic dimensions within the marvellous narrative discourse Chapter Three consists of two sections. The first examines the main features of marvellous narrative discourse in Aqeel's works, focusing on aspects such as marvellous space, characters, and focalization. The second section discusses the author's worldview as revealed through his narrative texts. The key findings of the study include: 1. The articulation of marvellous narrative discourse and the identification of its central features in Gulf literature. 2. The successful application of Greimasian semiotics as an effective method for analyzing the characteristics of marvellous narration. 3. The extraction of significant intellectual and cultural insights from Aqeel's marvellous narrative discourse and his worldview, which offer critical reflections on issues surrounding contemporary human experience
